This spot could well provide the biggest waves in the whole of the north island and as such only the pros or those on a suicide run should be out here.
The beach doesn’t really exist here, you just sort of run out of land. There are a few houses dotted about nearby, and it's a pretty nice location to be, never crowded and in fact usually deserted. If you come here in summer a thin wetsuit will be plenty as the air temperature will be in the mid-20s.
The conditions here are their best when the wind is coming from the north-west, west or south-west and the swell is coming from the north, east or north-east. It works at all tide positions and on both rising and falling tides, and the swell starts at a height of around 2 m and on the best days will hold up to around 5 m. It breaks both right and left on a reef, and the waves here are hollow, fast, and powerful - an excellent combination if you know what you are doing and deadly if you don't. Length is about average for the island and on most days you'll get it between 100 and 150 m.
You won't find any facilities on the beach, and the nearby houses hardly constitute a town so you will need to bring everything you need with you.
Apart from the waves themselves, you are going to need to learn quite quickly to keep clear of the rocks that are dotted about here.
